Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway

The Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway(沪宁高速公路) is a fully enclosed, high grade and multifunctional modern highway. The highway has two-way four lanes. Each lane is 3.75m. And the main highway's roadbed is 26 meters. There sets a 3-meter-wide dividing strip in the center of the highway and a 2.5-meter-wide emergency parking area on the each side of the highway. The cars are supposed to drive below the speed of 120 km/h.

The Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway is 274 kilometers in total. It starts from Zhenru, Shanghai and ends in Maqun, Nanjing. And it go through Anting(安亭), Kunshan(昆山), Suzhou(苏州), Shuofang(硕放), Wuxi(无锡),Hengshan(横山), Changzhou(常州), Danyang(丹阳), Zhenjiang(镇江) and Jurong(句容). The Shanghai section is 25.87 kilometers long. The Jiangsu section is 248.21 kilometers long. And the Zhenjiang section, which is a branch of the highway, is 10.25 kilometers long.

The Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway started construction on June 14 in 1992. The construction work was finished in February in 1996. And the completed highway was open to traffic on November 28 in 1996. In the same year, the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway was listed as national key construction project.

As the first highway in Jiangsu province, the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway has relatively perfect charge, monitoring, communication, lighting and safety traffic project and service facilities. It has effectively improved the transportation conditions in Jiangsu and Shanghai. And the highway undoubtedly promote the development along the road.[1]
